A half-day workshop with artisan maker Sian Cornish whose silk ribbons have gained fame in the recent Universal Film production of EMMA, and graced weddings and events worldwide. Throughout the workshop Sian will reveal the secrets to beautiful, lasting colour from plants transferred to textiles.
Conversations around colour and landscape are interwoven into the course, as students learn tried and tested methods to prepare fabrics for natural dyeing, the mordanting process, creating a dye bath and making samples from traditional plant dyes.
We will also cover simple shibori techniques to create texture and pattern.
Students create a series of beautiful silk ribbons in plain and shibori patterns to take away.
